Spotlight on Tyson Quocksister

Tyson Quocksister: BCLS, EIT, BSc.Eng.

The Wei Wai Kum Nation would like to acknowledge the efforts of member, Tyson Quocksister and the work he has done at McElhanney Ltd to survey the Wei Wai Kum Incremental Treaty Lands.

Tyson’s journey to his current position was inspired by a clear vision of his academic pursuits after completing high school. He pursued engineering in Alberta, ultimately earning a Bachelor of Science in Geomatics Engineering from the University of Calgary. His career in land surveying began with McElhanney Ltd. in Nanaimo, where he obtained his commission as a British Columbia Land Surveyor. This profession has offered him a diverse range of experiences, blending fieldwork and office administration. While much of his work revolves around determining and establishing property boundaries, he is also deeply involved in construction layout, utilizing advanced tools like robotic total stations, GPS, and drones. Tyson has undertaken challenging land surveys for treaty settlement lands for Nations on Vancouver Island, navigating obstacles such as parcel size, weather conditions, site accessibility, and terrain complexities. Quite often he is re-establishing property boundaries dating back to the late 1800’s to early 1900’s.

Tyson’s mother is Bonita Quocksister, and his grandparents are Joe and Frances Quocksister. Tyson currently resides in Nanaimo with his wife and daughter.
