Lands Survey & Boat Tour

Congratulations to Rory on winning the Amazon Gift Card. We sincerely value the contributions of all members regarding the treaty lands surveys conducted over the past few months.

On July 9th, community members, members of Chief and Council, hereditary leadership, Guardians, and the treaty team spent a full day on the M.V Tenacious III to view treaty lands of interest in the Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ Territory. We talked about treaty lands that are important for cultural, stewardship, economic, and community reasons.  We departed from Discovery Marina with Campbell River Whale Watching, eventually arriving at the head of Loughbough Inlet at the mouth of the Apple River, viewing areas of interest along the way. At the Heydon Bay Reserve we disembarked the vessel and walked inland to view the fish fence that the Wei Wai Kum Guardians are working to replace. Several hours later we arrived home through the Yaculta Rapids (anglicized form of Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ), now known as the Seymour Narrows. In the past, Liǧʷiłdax̌ʷ once forced other nations to pay a toll to transit this passage.
